May 2018

Greetings

As our year draws to an end, it is important to reflect on the year. It's been such an amazing year for me as Bellehaven's principal. I have enjoyed meeting so many of you and I look forward to working with families this coming school year. Thank you for your continued support for our school.

With the end of the year also comes staff changes and family moves. I would like to take this opportunity to wish those students and families leaving us this year all the best in their new schools and homes. We want to extend our sincere thanks and best wishes to staff members who will be leaving us for different assignments and retirement. Ms. Chen at 4th grade will be moving to Texas. Ms. Phillips, gifted teacher is retiring this year after a very distinguished career with APS. Both will be missed by students and staff alike.

We are fortunate to have a very dedicated and hard working staff here at Bellehaven. Next week, May 7th-11th is Teacher Appreciation Week. I hope you take a minute to thank your child's teacher for their work and devotion to our student body. Not a day has passed that I haven't been in awe of the work they do with our student's.

Noteworthy

  • This Thursday (May 3rd) evening 6:00-7:30 we will have Family Science Night sponsored by Sandia Labs and Explora. You just have to come and enjoy some hands-on science experiments. We will have light refreshments here that evening too. Ms. Fisher has agreed to open the Book Fair that evening at 5:30 so you can also purchase some books!
  • It's not to late to register for K-3+ summer school. Please if you haven't registered but are interested ~ stop by the office to get a registration packet.
  • We will be having a Field Day this month on the 18th and we will need volunteers to help with all the activities on that day. Look for those volunteer sign-up slips to be coming home soon. We will have K-2 in the morning and 3-5 in the afternoon. Ms. Parker our PE teacher has made some great plans for everyone to have a fun and safe day at play.
  • PTA is planning a Movie Night on the 11th in the cafeteria. Fun times to look forward to with your children!
  • We will be having a Moving On ceremony for our 5th graders on May 22nd from 9:00-10:15. Probably one of the saddest things for me this year is . . . I only had one year with those cool kids.
  • Starting Monday the 7th yearbook will go on sale in the office. This is a great keepsake for only $11.00.
  • If you have library books at home, PLEASE send those in soon. We hate for students to have to pay for lost books. Thanks for your assistance in making sure they get returned.

    Farewell for Now

I look forward to the new academic year and setting the priorities to build upon the successes of the school, so that we can improve still further. We should always seek to do better; to challenge ourselves and our students to set the highest standards and achieve our ambitious goals. For your 'calendaring' pleasure you can go ahead and mark August 13th as the date students return to school.

Enjoy your summer activities, be safe, and we will be excited to see everyone back next year!
